Hotel Near Bear Mountain State Park

Bear Mountain rises in New York's Hudson Highlands within Bear Mountain State Park. It is accessible by paved roads as well as several hiking trails, including the oldest section of the Appalachian Trail. The area offers a variety of recreational activities and spectacular Hudson River views. Overnight visitors can choose among several lodgings within a 10-mile drive of the mountain, ranging from a small motel to a large, generations-old inn.

Bear Mountain Inn

The Bear Mountain Inn (visitbearmountain.com) is right in Bear Mountain State Park, with views of Bear Mountain, which is five miles away, Hessian Lake and the Hudson River. The U.S. Military Academy at West Point is seven miles away. Outdoor activities within walking distance of the inn include swimming, hiking, fishing, cross-country skiing, ice-skating and a children's playground. For those who like to shop, an outlet mall and antique stores are also nearby. Rooms are available in four stone cottages and the Overlook Lodge, each with TV, free high-speed Internet, and a kitchenette with microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker and wet bar. Some rooms are accessible to the handicapped. For corporate retreats, weddings and other large gatherings, the inn includes 30, 000 feet of event space and four ballrooms and provides audiovisual equipment and catering. Special rates are available for stays of 30 days or more. Pets are welcome for a fee.

Bear Mountain Bridge Motel

Bear Mountain Bridge Motel (no website: U.S. Route 9W; Fort Montgomery; 845-446-2472) is a small, six-room lodging just a mile and a half from the Bear Mountain Bridge that connects Bear Mountain State Park and Westchester County, across the Hudson River. Bear Mountain is a six-mile drive away. Recognizable by its retro, red-and-blue neon sign, the motel is also 2 1/2 miles from West Point, a 15-minute drive from Woodbury Commons Outlets and a 20-minute drive from the Cold Spring Antique Center. Accommodations include free Wi-Fi, TV, air conditioning and private baths. The motel is close to a deli and pizza parlor, among other local restaurants.

Econo Lodge Near West Point

The Econo Lodge Near West Point (econolodge.com‎) is eight miles from Bear Mountain, just outside the grounds of West Point, home to Michie Stadium and the Eisenhower Hall Theatre, which hosts a variety of performances and supports the West Point Corps of Cadets. The hotel is also a few minutes from the Storm King Art Center outdoor sculpture park and Bear Mountain State Park, which offers swimming, boating, fishing, and miles of hiking and biking trails. The Econo Lodge offers a free continental breakfast and Wi-Fi access, as well as business services and meeting facilities. All rooms are equipped with refrigerators, desks and cable TV. Some have balconies, microwaves and whirlpool baths. Family suites are available. The hotel is pet-friendly but fees apply.

Inn on the Hudson

Formerly The Peekskill Inn, the Inn on the Hudson (innonthehudson.com‎) is a 10-mile drive to Bear Mountain across the Bear Mountain Bridge. It is also an hour north of Manhattan, a short drive from the Peekskill Metro North train station and within walking distance of Peekskill's shops, art studios, parks and restaurants. The family-owned hotel has 53 rooms, all with views of the Hudson. Some have private terraces. The inn offers a complimentary continental breakfast every morning and lunch and dinner at Henry's on the Hudson, the on-site restaurant, seven days a week. Other amenities include a 24-hour beverage bar, bedtime "cookie depot, " outdoor pool, Wi-Fi throughout the property, and a wisteria vine-covered gazebo. The Inn on the Hudson is pet-friendly.
